Gameshark was the American brand name of the Action Replay Game Enhancer, originally. It originally focused on altering memory addresses to create cheat codes. InterAct was the original publishers of the GameShark until it went bankrupt. Shortly after InterActs bankrupcy the name brand was sold to Mad Catz in January of 2003. After the acquisition Mad Catz continued marketing the brand as a traditional cheat device. Fire International also left development of the Codebreaker to work on the GameShark at this time. When releasing the Xbox GameShark it was revealed that "Power Saves" would take the place of cheat codes and from then on most GameShark releases have been focused on allowing users to import and export their game saves.
GameShark has released several difefrent magazines over the years. At first, they were called "Dangerous Waters>" Over the years, the titled eventually changed to "GameShark." Sadly, some of these magazine issues still remain unknown since they are pretty rare to find.
The Action Replay is a Game Enhancer device for the Nintendo DS. It was created by Datel. It is a cheat code based device and allows the user to control the menu by using the DS's touchscreen. The code list can be updated by downloading updates from the official Datel website, and from there using software and downloading it to the AR DS through a USB cable. The AR plugs into the DS game port. Rather than having a pass-through port, the AR must first be inserted, then after booting, the game of choice is inserted.

Trainer Kit
The Action Replay Trainer Kit is a peripheral sold seperately which allows users to find their own codes. It plugs into the GBA cartridge slot so it only works on the original DS models.

The Action Replay is a Game Enhancer device for the Game Boy Advance. It was created by Datel. As with most Action Replays it allows the user to input cheat codes. It is basically the same as the GameShark for Game Boy Advance, in fact there was software available that would turn the GameShark into a Action Replay. There was also a automatic game recognition system which automatically selected the cheat code list for the game that was inserted. It is also possible to download codes from Datel's website onto your PC and then transfer them to the Action Replay with a USB cord. Or you could simply type in the desired cheats using the included software and transfer them.

Action Replay GBA 2002 Software
This is the Action Replay software for the GBA that was released in 2002 from Datel. As far as I know of, it only works for the Action Replay in the clear case with the USB-B port on the side.

Datel does not have this on their support site anymore.

Just do the following:

Extract the files.

Burn the files to CD. They are in CD structure, not ISO.

Place the CD in the CD-Drive, then install the software using the autoplay function.

Leave the CD in the Drive and connect your AR (while in your GBA) to your computer and turn on your GBA.

Your computer will automatically install the drivers and you will be adding codes in no time.

Max Duo problem
The Action Replay MAX Duo worked with the GBA and DS. Besides using codes, it also had the ability to save DS game saves onto a computer using a USB cable. Using this method, users could backup and restore saved game files. However, the device does not recognize any Pokémon save data located in its slot. Despite numerous updates to the device, there has been no explanation given as to why the device ignores Pokémon games.

Releases
The Action Replay is a game enhancer, created by Datel, which has been made for multiple systems. On several systems, the Action Replay was actually re-branded as the GameShark in the US region.

History
Originally a Amiga expansion cartridge was developed. This version allowed for users to monitor all changes on the video game and save it to the Action Replays memory. A button on the Action Replay can be pressed which will bring up a screen giving access to this info which could then be modified. Later versions included a complete disassembler. A knob on the cartridge could also slow down gameplay to give players more time to react.

A version was also created for the Commodore 64 and PC.

Eventually, versions were created for later systems and dropped the disassembler and slow motion features. Instead they focused on cheat codes. The use of cheat codes was improved as button toggle codes became available which will activate codes only when a button or button combination was pressed. Eventually encryption was used in codes to prevent codes from being shared with competing Game Enhancers. This also makes it difficult to modify existing codes but fortunately a program called GCNrd was created which would assist in modifying and creating codes for the GameCube AR.

With the creation of the Nintendo DS Action replay encryption was dropped and a trainer for finding codes was released.

The Codebreaker is a Game Enhancer for the Game Boy Advance. It was released by Pelican Accessories. Pelican released the Codebreaker Advance shortly after the GameShark Advance came out. Like the GameShark Advance, it is a step up from its Gameboy counterpart, but lacks a trainer. Notable code types that has been added include the slide code, 8- and 16-bit writes, conditionals, and a bitwise AND. However, it does not implement a 32-bit RAM write or a ROM patch, both of which the GameShark Advance has. Codebreaker codes are encrypted by default, but unencrypted codes can be allowed, by not having a 9-code as the first line of a master code.
The Xploder is a cheat device for Game Boy Advance. Unlike many of the Xploders released before it this one does not have a trainer whatsoever. The device came in two incarnations: The Xploder Advance, which uses cheats, and the Xploder Action Reloader, which does not use cheats, but instead savestates.

The Xploder Action Reloader has two load buttons and one save button. Pressing both load buttons at the same time will reboot the console. There are seven savestates total, which can be used all for one game, or for several games.
