The Action Replay 2 is a Game Enhancer device for the Playstation 2. It was created by Datel but was distributed in the US region as the GameShark. It supported cheat code entry but did not have tools for creating them. This was also the first Action Replay to use encrypted codes. The use of encryted codes was to keep cheat codes from competing Game Enhancer software being used. This Action Replay used a DVD and saved the cheats to a standard memory card.

GameShark 2

After Mad Catz aquired the Gameshark name in 2003 it released the Gameshark 2 in March. Datel then released the Action Replay in the US under the Action replay label. Thus, for the first time the GameShark and Action Replay were competitors in the US market.
